New route planned to avoid Ukraine

We’ve had to make a few changes to our route. Unfortunately the Ukraine/Russia conflict doesn’t look like it’s going to resolve itself anytime soon. It’s hard to guess what’s going to happen next with Russia so we’ve abandoned our original plan to cycle across Ukraine and Russia into Kazakhstan and will now head south through Turkey to find our way across to central Asia.

Route Map Milestones Rev19

This has added an extra 1600 km to our overall route and means we will have to pedal a bit faster than previously anticipated across Europe. We feel this is perfectly doable. On the plus side we have now added Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan to the list of countries we will visit. Georgia and the historic cities of Samarkand and Tashkent in Uzbekistan will be particular highlights.

For those of you who like round numbers we will now cycle a total of 23,000 km, through 23 countries in 230 days.

You can see the whole route on Google Maps here.
